Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Crown's Budget Coaching unique?

Crown Budget Coaching provides access to a Crown-trained Budget Coach who has invested hours acquiring knowledge and coaching skills. Using the results of assessments (MoneyLife Indicator and Personality ID), Bible study lessons, and many practical tools, your coach will equip you to navigate the spiritual and practical aspects of financial stewardship. Perhaps most importantly, Crown coaches have a heart for sharing Biblical financial priciples with their clients to facilitate spiritual as well as financial transformation.

MoneyLife Indicator Assessment

The free MoneyLife Indicator assessment must be completed and submitted before you are assigned a coach.

The benefits of the MLI include:

  • Providing a baseline on beliefs and behaviors across several factors to both you and your coach
  • Creating a picture of how you view money and your responsibility to manage your resources
  • Comparing your mindset about money and possessions to what the Bible teaches

Personality ID Assessment

The free online Personality ID (PID) must be completed and submitted before you are assigned a coach.

Personality ID is an enhanced DISC-based personal assessment tool used to improve work productivity, teamwork and communication.

The personality factors of Directing, Interacting, Supporting, and Conscientiousness are measured and expanded with different attributes describing typical behavior. Personality ID is nonjudgmental and helps people discuss their behavioral differences. Participants will be asked to complete a series of questions that produce a detailed report about their personality and behavior.

The benefits of the Personality ID (PID) include:

  • Enhancement of your self-knowledge and greater understanding of your strengths and weaknesses as they relate to your personality.
  • Discovery of  your natural personality profile, key stress indicators, and strengths.
  • Better understanding of how you interact with others, thus improving your relationships.
  • Insight as to why some financial principles may be challenging for you. This is especially important if you are married.

Answer each question with complete honesty in order to generate accurate results, resulting in important insights to increase your self-knowledge.  Applying this self-knowledge can help you learn to navigate relationships in a stronger, healthier way.

Why do I need a Budget Coach?

In the words of Charles Landsborough, “Everyone needs a little help sometime.” Working with a qualified Budget Coach gives you access to knowledge, encouragement, and accountability, helping you develop a financial plan and learn how to implement it faithfully. Whether you need to develop a budget, create a debt repayment plan, or deepen your understanding of God's heart and mind in the area of stewardship, a coach can provide the support you need for success. Your Budget Coach will instruct and encourage you with God's word, increasing your understanding about how God wants you to view money and possessions. As you get financially healthy you will also experience the joy and peace that comes from following God's principles.

As part of the course content, you will learn about “God’s Part” and “Our Part.”  God’s part includes His roles as Owner and Provider. However, as with all other aspects of life, He has a part for us to play as well.  Your coach will help you understand your role as a steward and do everything he/she can to support you in making wise decisions and following through on them.  However, it is up to you to apply the knowledge, wisdom, and discipline needed to have lasting results.

That said, several years ago, Crown conducted a survey of graduates of their Money Life program which has very similar content to our new Budget Coaching program. Respondents reported:

  • 38% reduction in personal debt
  • 58% increase in savings and investments
  •  71% increase in giving

In addition, 78% reported strengthening of their marriage and 35% reported a closer relationship with Christ.

Obviously we can't guarantee similar results, but you should expect to see improvement if you put in the effort to make necessary changes.

There is hope!  Your coach will assist you in reducing your debt through any or all of these processes:

  • Analyzing your debt situation
  • Developing and implementing a sound financial plan, which in turn will
    • create wise spending and savings to help avoid additional debt
    • creating a margin of funds to accelerate debt repayment
  • Prioritizing steps for debt repayment
  • Connecting you with Christian Credit Counselors, a reputable debt management program, to assist with credit card debt over $4,000. (Not licensed in all states.) This can help you get out of debt up to 80% faster!
  • Providing guidance and support to help you with other debtors.

After you finish your 7 lessons, you should have the tools and motivation needed to continue maintaining your budget and working your way through the Money Map. Your coach may recommend additional Crown resources to help you stay the course. Many coaches continue to meet with clients periodically (upon request) for prayer, encouragement, and accountability. As long as you are willing to reach out for help, have a teachable spirit, and earnestly seek to learn and apply biblical stewardship principles, we are willing to walk with you!
