Crown was founded in 1976  (originally Christian Financial Concepts, or CFC), by Larry Burkett to teach principles of total life stewardship. It originally focused on providing biblical financial wisdom through seminars and a radio program. In 1989, CFC merged with Crown Ministries to become Crown Financial Ministries, adding small group studies.  Seeing the need for practical one-on-one assistance, Larry began to train individuals to walk alongside others in their journey to financial freedom.  Though their titles have changed through the years (Financial Counselors, Budget Counselors, MoneyMap Coaches, MoneyLife Mentors, etc.), Budget Coaches have been a key component of the ministry since at least 1985. Coaches were trained in local churches and remotely using hard-bound training materials to serve those within the church and the surrounding communities.  Individuals contacting Crown Financial Ministries were connected to a coach geographically closest to them.

Around 2016, the program began to offer online coaching, as well as online coach training, thus expanding our reach.  The program was revamped once again in 2020. Since that time, we have trained over 225 coaches, and served over a thousand couples and individuals, helping them to learn and apply sound financial principles that align with God’s word and will help them to thrive in today’s culture.
